About San Animal Santuario

San Animal Santuario is a Registered Charity started in 2010, set up by a group of animal lovers who share the desire to make a difference to abandoned cats and dogs in the Aguilas, Lorca and surrounding areas of south-east Spain. Since forming, we have been successful in the homing of many cats and dogs, largely helped by generous donations from our supporters and the general public.

Our small emergency dog shelter is set amid the beautiful countryside surrounding Aguilas. We can hold up to  5 dogs, until they find their forever family. Please take a look at the Hall of Fame and contact us for further information, if you think that you could provide a loving, permanent home.

Domingo - Male. About 25kg. He was found as a stray and is currently living in our shelter. Approx. 1 year old. A very lively boy who enjoys his walkies. He is a fast learner and has picked up his basic commands very quickly so would make someone a lovely pet.

Lily - Small dog, born in June 2015, good with other dogs, castrated and ready for forever home. She has Leishmaniasis but this is under control with daily tablets.

Desperately Seeking Foster Homes

We feel that the best option for our dogs is live in a foster home before they find their forever homes but are currently short of fosterers. Foster placements can be for an agreed fixed period or on an ongoing basis. San Animal will cover all the expenses associated with the dog (vets bills, food etc) and can also arrange to provide holiday cover. Please consider taking a dog into your home – you can change its life.

If you would like to meet our dogs or be a fosterer please call or WhatsApp us on our dedicated phone - 675 46 76 47 - through our Facebook page 'San Animal Santuario' or via email to

Hope – a medium sized older dog – estimated around 6 years old. Has Leishmaniasis which is currently under control with daily pills. Loves being with other dogs.

Bibi – 6 months, 7.5 kilo, 47 cm high and not expected to grow any bigger. She is very sweet, likes to cuddle and play, is house trained, walks well on a lead and is currently with her sister in a foster home but fully vaccinated and chipped and ready for her forever home.

Bonnie – 6 months old, 11 kilo and 52 cm high. She is very playful, sweet, house trained and walks well on and off the lead. She is fully vaccinated and microchipped and currently living in a foster home with her sister (Bibi) but is ready for her forever home.

Sally and Esmerelda are 2 bouncy, jet black puppies around 4 months old. They were found abandoned in San Juan de Terreros at around 6 weeks old. They are going through their vaccination program and will soon be fully vaccinated and chipped. They have gorgeous long legs and will probably grow to be medium size dogs. They have sweet loving temperaments and are looking for their furever homes either together or separately.

Raika, Lisa, Ghandi, Einstein and Troll

These 5 puppies were found at around 6 weeks old in late March in a box in the dog beach in Aguilas. The 2 girls are blonde/brown with curly coats, 2 of the boys are black and white and the third boy is grey. They have grown quickly and are going to be large dogs when fully grown. Despite their size they are gentle and loving and very calm and quiet.

Lisa - 4 months old. Vaccinated, chipped and passport ready! Very sweet natured and a loveable, clever girl. Will be a big dog. Walks well on a lead but requires more training.

Liah - 6 months old. A very active, social female. Likes to play a lot. Good with people, children, cats and other dogs. Currently in a foster home.

Monthly Dog Walk

Our monthly dog walk starts at 10.00 am at our shelter just outside Aguilas, usually the first Sunday. You can bring your own dog or walk one of our shelter dogs and then join us for coffee and snacks. Contact us on 675 467 647 if you would like more details.
